Spring back to fitness: 8 outdoor exercise classes

Lockdown weight adding a few inches around the hips? Don't sweat it - we've found seven kick-ass fresh air exercise classes in Leicestershire and Rutland whatever your fitness level.

Okay so the weather’s touch and go but replacing joggers with jeans, and being able to eat out has got us yearning for some fitness. And with outdoor exercise classes now allowed (no indoor classes until at least May 17), we reckon its just the endorphin hit we need. POW!

Go forth, Muddy gym bunnies, and burpee like you mean it…

Zest 4 Life, Leicestershire

Joanna Helcke is a specialist in pre/postnatal fitness and is running outdoor postnatal fitness classes in Beacon Hill – she’s actually been running them for 13 years – and is back! Pram&Pilates runs Tuesday mornings and BuggyBabies runs Wednesday mornings both at Beacon Hill where she often gets the mums to charge up the hill to the very top! But don’t complain – it’s a fantastic class to help lose the baby weight. The schlep up that hill is worth it for her handmade yummy, healthy, raw vegan treats, which she always has ready for everyone after the class.

Elevate Yoga, Leicestershire

Rachel Voss has been practising yoga for many years and has been running outdoor lakeside classes for a while now. She predominantly teaches Vinyasa Flow and in May is taking her classes out to a new location. She’ll be running a number of yoga flow events on a farm surrounded by alpacas. Enjoy a completely new yoga experience overlooking beautiful scenery, whilst gentle, fluffy alpacas wander freely. Parking, toilet and hand-washing on site, bring your own yoga mat or blanket and be open-minded, this is the countryside after all. Classes for families are avail too. £15

Inspire2tri, Rutland

Encouraging people to realise their personal sporting and fitness potential, Inspire2tri is all about providing a friendly and enjoyable environment for sporting enthusiasts, yes, even beginners. Their studio barn in Manton has got a great outdoor patio and can comfortably accommodate eight people but it gets suer busy so best to book in advance. If you don’t get a spot, they also run the classes virtually – no wobbly laptops or iPads here though, we’re talking state of the art, high-quality mounted cameras on tripods. Right now they’re offering Kettles and Core, as well as sport and fitness conditioning. Classes are £7 each or class cards are available for “mix and match” classes.

Catmose Sports Centre, Rutland

The popular gym is offering outdoor fitness classes every Mon- Weds and Saturday mornings. These include toning, kettlercise, outdoor cycling and body balance. Classes get booked up super quick and they have the space to accommodate 24 people outside. The classes are for all abilities and are available to members or as pay-as-you-go at £6.95 per class.

More Fitness, Market Harborough

Currently only running outdoor classes throughout the day, every Tuesday you can pick from abs and core, HIIT sessions and more. Classes last 1 hour and can be booked in advance. Currently they’re offering 50% off a 3 month membership.

Leicester Outdoor Fitness

You could also join an outdoor fitness session on Monday evenings or opt for a morning class on Saturday between 9-10am. Classes take place in Victoria Park and start from £8 or a monthly membership from £25.

Be Military Fit, Leicestershire

If a gentle jog round the park is your bag, look away now. The cult fitness group that is BMF run high energy classes including the original military workout, but there’s also now Crossrun (a dynamic run-based workout) and Active (which focuses on strength and posture). Ian Redfern runs the local classes at Loughborough Football and Rugby Club and covers all aspects of functional training and the social aspect is also worth it.
