What’s in

Mon 30 Mar – Sun 5 Apr

Mon 30 Mar – Sun 5 Apr

We may not be able to venture out, but we’ve found a whole load of stuff to keep you entertained indoors. Week two of lockdown, let’s go!

FOOD & DRINK

If you’re looking to brush up on your baking skills during lockdown (GBBO here we come!) award-winning Oxfordshire-based baking wizz Mrs Bun the Baker is hosting live bake-alongs for families every Fri at 2pm on her Facebook page.

Meanwhile, cool Borough Market Bakery and Cookery School, Bread Ahead, is offering free online tutorials hosted by founder Matthew Jones on Instagram every day at 2pm. Stories will be available for 24 hours after they’re broadcast and you can find a schedule of what Matthew’s cooking (FYI Bread Ahead’s legendary donuts, above, are on the bill for this week) by signing up to the newsletter. 2-for-1 vouchers are also available for Sept 2020 workshops.

Now onto the golden nectar – Tiny Rebel Brewery is hosting a virtual beer tasting on Wed 1 Apr via Facebook Live. Simply order your six pack straight to your door and a member of the team will talk you through how the beers are made. Cheers.

FILM

Gutted you didn’t make it to the cinema to watch some of the brilliant new film releases this year (oh hello, Emma, The Invisible Man and, erm, Trolls: World Tour)? Universal Pictures is the first studio to let us watch at home with movies available to rent. No need to worry about sneaking snacks into the cinema -result.

FITNESS

Unprecedented and uncertain times like this call for us all to pay extra attention to our physical and mental health with loads of home workouts popping up across the internet to help (check out our yoga position of the week here).

Coming up this week, Wellness app Urban has launched a temporary online space for physio, yoga, one-to-one fitness and mindfulness – The Stay at Home Club. Sessions run from 20 – 55 minutes, with the platform aiming to support Urban’s community of self-employed practitioners.

Over on the BBC, 90s legend Mr Motivator returns to our TV screens daily at 10am with new show HealthCheck UK Live. Mr Motivator has also launched a series of short live streamed workouts at 12pm on his Twitter, plus you can see the them on his YouTube channel launching soon.

And then throwing it back further to the 80s, The Green Goddess, a.k.a. Dina Moran, is hosting morning exercise classes from her how where she’s self-isolating. The workouts will be aired on the BBC Mon, Wed and Fri at 6.55am and 8.55am and then shared on social media.

And finally for yogis, Oxford-based Prana Yoga has a selection of newly recorded online yoga sessions available to purchase for £5 each here. Or London yoga studio &Sister is hosting live classes Mon – Fri on Zoom. Classes cost £5 per household and are 45 minutes long.

THEATRE

If you’re missing your arts fix, tune into Housetrap Theatre & Arts Festival, hosted by West End venue IMMERSIVE LDN, this Fri (3 Apr) from 6.30pm to midnight. The shows are 15 – 50 minutes long and are filmed inside performers homes.

MUSIC

Concerts may be cancelled but that’s not stopping singer/songwriter L Devine. The British pop star will be live streaming a show for every date of her cancelled tour (26 & 30 Mar).

There’s more pop action over on Christine And The Queens’ Instagram page with the French singer performing nightly from the Ferber recording studio in Paris.

And if you’re after something classical, Barbara Hannigan and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra will be live streaming a show on 4 Apr at 2pm. They’ll be performing Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto.

KIDS

Finding it hard to get the nippers to nod off? Children’s author Oliver Jeffers (How to Catch a Star, Lost and Found) to the rescue with live readings on his Instagram, every night  at 6pm.
