Leicestershire Countryside Show, Beacon Hill, Mon 28 Aug
Taking place at Beacon Hill Country Park on the beautiful outskirts of rural Charnwood; the fantastic family event has evolved from the popular Wood Fair, which was held at Beacon Hill for more than 11 years. Boasting a unique line-up in the main arena that balances the very best of countryside life and a food marketplace where you can taste some of the freshly crafted local produce from within Leicestershire. From extreme mountain biking and sheep shows to birds of prey demonstrations there’s also live music, a main arena, food marketplace, marquees, stalls and plenty of free activities for children including tree climbing, wall climbing, bird-box making and much more. Adults £8, Children 3-16 years old £6 and under 3’s go free.
The Big Caribbean Cookout, Market Square Leicester, Mon 28 Aug
Fancy tucking into some jerk chicken? Then this brand new foodie event is for you. The Big Caribbean Cookout is a free event with food, music, entertainment and children’s rides. There will be tropical cocktails served at Archie’s Ol’ Rum Shack plus popular new takeaway Plukd will be hosting a spicy foodie Wing Sting Challenge with prizes and of course there will be the infectious sounds of Reggae, Calypso, Soca and Ska from DJs and live bands.
Nedwood Music Festival. Turnpost Farm, Wymeswold, until Mon 28 Aug
Catch the last day of this family-friendly festival features live music, disco tent and a northern soul tent. You can buy tickets for the entire weekend or day tickets. Live acts include folk singer Sophia Marshall. Lady Stardust, The Bowie Experience, Fahran and Her Burden. There’s also fair ground attractions to keep the kids entertained and plenty of stalls and traders pitching up.

Enjoy stand-up comedy in a variety of locations including PETER Pizzeria and The Criterion over the weekend. On Sunday head to the Kids’ Court at The Guidhall and watch as kids put their parents or older siblings on trial and decide a suitable penalty for them. Dead Leicester at the City Festival, The Magazine Fri 25 Aug – Mon 28 aug
Join superb storytellers and comedy as you walk through medieval streets; hear true stories and legends of foul beasts and dastardly deeds, of lost souls, unearthly maidens and fallen kings. Set amongst the sights of the city, the storytellers will drag you giggling and screaming on a roller-coaster ride through two thousand years of Leicester’s history. The Dinosaurs of China, New Walk Museum, Leicester, Tues 29 August
If your kids are anything like Peppa Pig’s little brother George who is obsessed with dinosaurs, they’re going to love this event. Hunter, a three metre tall animatronic dinosaur will be making a special visit to the museum which is a drop-in event that’s free to watch. The dinosaur will be in the Palaeontology and Geology galleries, Museum Square and the entrance area for 30 mins on the hour at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.
