10 ways to celebrate The Platinum Jubilee
From free street parties and dance extravaganzas to fancy art installations, here's what to do and where to head locally to celebrate the 2022 Platinum Jubilee.
Up Your High Street, Leics, 2-5 June
Six indie cafes across the city are going to be taken over by emergings artists as they create installations and interactive workshops overe the Jubilee weekend. The venues include James’ Cafe Bistro, Prana Cafe, Exchange Bar, the cafe at the Curve and St. Martin’s Coffee Shop. Expect everything from a giant colouring book (yes, you can colour it!) mixed media installations, mini sculptures and more. All free of course!
Dance for the Queen, Leicester,
Kick start the four-day weekend with an exceptional musical party! To celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, join in with a dance extravaganza, featuring some of the best local dance performers. Seven dance groups have choreographed a stunning dance routine to a medley of iconic music tracks from the seven decades of the Queen’s reign. The finale will include an explosion of movement and sound right across Jubilee Square. Bring your dancing shoes! Free to attend.
Proms in the Park, Hinckley and Bosworth
Enjoy an evening concert featuring Leicester’s Bardi Wind Orchestra who will perform a programme of music to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This free evening concert, featuring the Bardi Wind Orchestra, takes place at the bandstand so bring your picnic blanket and sit back and enjoy the music. Free to attend.
Harborough Platinum Jubilee Weekend, Market Harbs, 4-5 June
There’s music and fireworks plus delicious food, drinks and even a funfair for the kids at the the Platinum Party on Sat 4 June. Meanwhile on Sunday, pack a picnic or bring your sharing plates and head to the Big Jubilee Lunch. Join the local community for music, singing, dancing and more fireworks! Free for under 16s.
The Rutland County Show, Rutland Showground, 4 June
This year the annual show will take place during the Queen’s Jubilee Weekend and will feature popular agricultural elements alongside fabulous attraction, family entertainment, great shopping, delicious food and drink and more. Tickets from £2.
Dance through the Decades, Nat Space Centre, Leicester, 2 June
Join the National Space Centre as they ‘dance through the decades’ to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and illuminate their iconic Rocket Tower. There will be dance performances inspired by seven decades of the Queen’s reign and it’s all free to attend.
Platinum Jubilee Celebrations GC Railway, Leics, 5 June
Travel through time on the rails and celebrate with the Great Central Railway throughout the weekend. There will be everything from. a Swing Band, dance classes, an aerial display featuring a Spitfire, Hurricane and a Mustang! The 1960s themed-event will also feature food, drink and a and photo exhibition. There will also be a free heritage bus to Quorn Village on Sat 4 June. This is a ticketed event.
Coalville Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, 4 – 5 June
Two fantastic free Platinum Jubilee events over the weekend in Coalville. On Sat evening enjoy a concert featuring classic soul, funk and rock plus jazz and on Sunday there’s tribute acts, a baby Big Top Circus, skate, scooter and graffiti workshops plus more. It’s all free!
Music for a Royal Jubilee, Nevill Holt Opera, 4 June
A celebratory Last Night of the Proms-style concert for for royalty! Nevill Holt Opera Artistic Director, Nicholas Chalmers conducts the world-renowned BBC Concert Orchestra. With much-loved music from celebrated composers including Handel, Elgar, Holst and Parry. The beautiful Nevill Holt Opera gardens will be open for picnicking for two hours prior to the concert as normal so make it a great day of it. Tickets from £45
Queen’s Jubilee, Belvoir Castle, 4 – 5 June
Fancy a street party, with delicious food and drink, British stalls, jousting, street performers, musicians? Well look no further! There will also be children’s entertainment including a Punch & Judy show, craft area not to mention classic cars and a falconry show! Tickets £22 for adults and £10 for kids.
