From spooky goings-on to fun workshops and events, there's plenty to keep the kids busy during the hols and beyond.

Halloween Needle Felting, Squirrels at Wellsborough, Sat 20 Oct

Create a needle felted Halloween bat with the expert guidance. The Workshop is held in their grade II listed farm cottage in Wellsborough and includes freshly baked cakes and hot and cold drinks.  Suitable for children accompanied by an adult £17.50 per person.

Halloween Baking with Kids, Great Oxenden, Sat Oct 27

The wonderful Margarita is holding a fab cookery class for kids this half term. There will be all sorts of spooky treats to make and tuck into from Bloody Witches Fingers and Devils Chocolate Cupcakes to name just a few. £20 and booking online is essential.

Family Halloween Party, Nat Space Centre, Leicester, Sat 27 Oct

Get into the ‘spirit’ of things with a special evening for all the family to enjoy, even the mummies. The National Space Centre is hosting the ultimate Halloween ex-FEAR-ience, with live Alien Encounters, Silent Disco, Slime Making and an out of this world Costume Competition… it will be positively frightful. Donington Le Heath, Witches and Wizards Sun 28 Oct

Family Halloween Woodland Spooktacular, Cattows Farm, Heather, Sun 28 Oct

Enjoy Leicestershire’s biggest pick your own pumpkin patch during the Halloween weekend. Hosted by Discover Outdoors – Forest School, there will also be a tractor and trailer ride, arts and crafts, pumpkin carving (of course), a scavenger hunt, storytelling and more. £8 per child (includes trick or treat goodies and a small pumpkin).  £2 per adult. Booking must be made in advance for each slot.

Ghosts and Ghouls Week, Abbey Pumping Station, Leicester, Sun 21 Oct – Sun 28 Oct 

Abbey Pumping Station will be hosting a week-long event in their museum where you can explore the unusual surroundings whilst looking for their friendly ghost. Fee and activity packs are £1.50 and there is a small charge for train rides. 11am – 3pm.

The Haunted Hall, Leicester Guildhall, Thur 25 Oct

Join the ghosts, witches and wizards of the Guildhall for a frightening family fun day. There will be creepy crafts and treacherous trails around the building so be brave and venture to the haunted Guildhall for a good fright, face painting and quizzes. Beware the Barber Surgeon whose uses gruesome methods of treatment from toothache, fevers, infections or chopped off fingers and toes. Surgery will be open throughout the day…if you dare!

October Half-Term Workshops, Rutland County Museum

A bunch of fun workshops to enjoy this half term including Autumn Crafts (17 Oct). Create beautiful seasonal crafts inspired by the colours and animals of autumn. Make leafy decorations, woodland animals, pictures, masks and more. During the Creepy Creations workshop (22 and 24 Oct) you can make scary masks, creepy treat bags, pictures and lanterns. Suitable for children 4-10 years. Barnsdale’s Scary Spooktacular, Oakham, Sun 28 Oct 

Come for a walk in the Weird Woods where you can take part in a spot of spooky apple bobbing and carve your own petrifying pumpkin to take home- it’s frightening fun for all the family, and kids in costume visit free. Open from noon – 4pm.

Go 7! Apollo Half Term at National Space Centre, until Sun 4 Nov 2018

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first mission in the Apollo space programme to carry a crew into space. You can find out  how astronauts lived, trained, and even how they went to the toilet in space! Plenty of space-related fun activities, including a tour of the night sky, Mission Patch craft zone, and a chance to build, launch and land a rocket! This is sure to be out of this world!!

Loogabarooga Festival, Loughborough, until Tues 23 Oct 

This popular children’s festival is celebrating 80 years of the iconic comic The Beano and is honoured to host an Exhibition of Comic Art by John Patrick Reynolds at the Charnwood Museum. Expect local and nationally renowned authors, storytellers and illustrators, whose work gives Loogabarooga its unique and charming character. There’s Willy Wonka and Cartooning workshops, puppet fun, creative play and so much more during this fun-filled event.
