For those of you who like art and want to be inspired by a new wave of creativity, then open exhibitions are the place to go, especially Loughborough Town Hall’s latest offering. An open exhibition can contain quite literally any kind of artwork (as long as it’s 2D). It’s the ideal time to get some artistic inspiration, and what’s more, be surprised by the range of talent on display. Work can be submitted no matter who you are, so you can go along and admire an array of different art.

You don’t need to pay to go to the zoo to meet some amazing animals this week. Simply head to Hinckley and see Dr Zoolittle as part of Hinckley BID’s Summer of Fun scheme. The likes of meerkats and rabbits are just some of the animals you could get to know. Free for all.

Just because Leicestershire is in the middle of England, who says that we can’t have a day at the seaside? We just need to bring the seaside to us and that’s exactly what’s happening this week. Returning for another year, Melton by the Sea is bringing you sand pits, pirates and funfair rides, as well as lots more. Time to enjoy a family day at the seaside without the travel hassle.

Medieval Mayhem – Meet the Plague Doctor, Leicester, Thurs 9 Aug

Find out how doctors dealt with the plague centuries ago, as well as take part in crafts and trails. Perfect to stop the children from getting bored over their summer holiday!

If the phrase ‘man’s best friend’ really does apply to your relationship with dogs, then you’ll love this event. You don’t have to enter your dog into a competition to go to the Dog Agility Festival, you can simply go if you love dogs! If the world of dog agility takes your fancy (and your dog’s) the you can have a go in the practice course and treat your canine friend to something from the many trade stalls present.
