Go Canoeing Week. Outdoor Pursuits Centre, Leicester, until Sun 4 June
This year British Canoeing have teamed with Cancer Research UK to paddle 30,000 miles whilst raising £30,000 for the charity during National Go Canoeing Week. At the city’s Outdoor Pursuits Centre you can have a taste of what it’s like to canoe in the starter session (minimum age 8) on 27 May and 3 June priced at £10. Meanwhile for guided tours there’s some fun ones to join. Try the Pub Paddle, the Stand Up Paddle Board where you can learn to balance and manoveure while standing, or take a tour of Leicester down the River Soar in the Down River Tour. For competitive types try the KataKanu Treasure Hunt and keep you eyes open for hidden treasure. Check website for prices and timing.
National Space Centre, Deep Space, Leicester until Sat 3 June
Take a look deep into space and discover the secrets of our galaxy and beyond. Throughout the week there’s opportunities to take a tour round our hands-on exhibition, travel in the glass lift to the top of the iconic Rocket Tower, join the Mission Commanders for a journey through space and time to create the origins of the Universe in a live musical workshop. Take a seat and get creative making your very own magical star in a jar and top it all off by watching a clip of the landing of astronaut, Thomas Pesquet as he arrived into space.
Visit Conkers, Whitsun Half Term Family until Sun 4th
It’s a fun packed week full of activities to keep your kids busy from the hilarious Punch and Judy shows to Dippy the clown, there’s also the chance to see Sooty and his friends. Ranger activities include pond dipping, bush craft and orienteering. Alternatively let them try their hand at painting a pot in the studio. Don’t forget you can also check out the new 4D Cinema during your visit.
Loughborough Town Hall, Don’t Dribble on the Dragon, Tue 30 May
Based on the book by Steven Lee and with magic designed by the legendary Paul Daniels, this musical adventure is all about about growing up. Tom is a toddler with a big, older brother, a secret dragon… and a dribbling problem that just won’t stop! It’s a wonderful mix of fun, pathos, instantly singalong songs – and Daniels’ jaw-dropping magic trickery.
Family Crafting, Leicestershire Craft Centre, Market Harborough, Wed 31 May/ Fri 2 June
Get creative with the kids at the Leicestershire Craft Centre. There’s still a few spaces left to join a variety of workshops including Family Crafting (Wed 31 May). Little Crafters (Fri 2 June) is open to 4-7 year olds and they’ll have a go at sewing, painting, sticking and making some brilliant crafty things to take home. The pottery class is open to kids 5 and over and they’ll get to make an under the sea themed ceramic tile decorated with mermaids, sharks or any other sea life. CURVE, Leicester, Milkshake! Live, Wed 31 May
Starring your kids favourites including Bob the Builder, Noddy, Fireman Sam, Shimmer & Shine, Pip from Pip Ahoy, this all-singing, all-dancing musical masterpiece will take audiences on a journey through the world’s favourite fairytales. Set amongst the magical bookcase, this brand new live show is sure to amaze and delight as the cast sing songs and share stories that both young and old will know and enjoy.
Twinlakes, Melton Mowbray Sat 27 May – Sun 4 June
For a fun filled day that is sure to get the kids super excited, head to Twin Lakes. Budding superheroes can enrol in the Superhero boot camp and can also take part in the Superhero craft workshop. Big kids will enjoy seeing some of the UK’s top professional extreme sports team, showing off their BMX, scooter and skateboards skills on 28 May. Titan The Robot will be there on 31st May bringing along his comedy, street theatre and music and on 3 June there’s a great line-up of music to entertain you and the mudlets.
