Foodie fans will be flocking to this event that highlights a variety of events and special offers around the county, including cookery demonstrations, food markets, workshops, themed menus and lots more. Stock up on local ingredients at Oakham Farmers Market on 21 Oct before concluding at the festival will Rutland Food & spills out from Oakham Castle and grounds onto the Market Place and down to The Victoria Hall. Expect to sample locally made bread, cakes, drinks, beer, cheese and much much more.

Ice cream fans will be excited to hear about this brand spanking new festival taking place in the city. Award-winning independent gelateria, Gelato Village, St Martin’s Square is hosting a three day festival showcasing authentic artisanal gelato. The theme of the festival will be ‘Getting to know gelato’ and has an aim of educating the UK audience about authentic artisanal gelato made from the best quality, natural ingredients and will also inlude workshops, talks and tastings. This event is free.

Run by Nick Hamilton especially for the RHS this practical course is aimed at both experienced and novice growers who want to learn how to extend their productive season. Including propagation methods, growing in beds, storage and the importance of catch crops, by the end of the day you’ll be able to plan a planting programme to give you home-grown vegetables on the dinner table every day of the year. 10am-4pm. Taking place above the cosy flower shop, the ladies at The Fancy Flower Shop will talk you through how to make the best looking pumpkins in town. This intimate class shaw space for around 8 people so book early to avoid disappointment. Brings your friends or take the kids. Clases run from 1.30-3pm and cost £35 which includes the equipment and pumpkins.

Francesca Simpson will be displaying her first solo exhibition of her new original work at the Eyebrook Gallery which kicks off this week. Visitors and art lovers will be able to purchase limited and open edition prints of Francesca’s work. The self taught artist focuses on wildlife and landscape artist and her detailed biro and pencil drawings as well as her acrylic paintings celebrate the beauty of animals and the natural world. Francesca was a finalist in the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Wildlife Artist of the Year Award in 2016 as well as being a finalist this year at The Biscuit Factory’s Open Contemporary Young Artist Award. This exhibition is free to visit.
