Walking Sports Festival, Leics Fri May 17
The city’s first walking festival has been launched to health and wellbeing as part of National Walking Month. The free event runs from 10.30am to 12pm and will give attendees the chance to take part in, or observe, taster sessions of walking basketball, cricket and football. Head to Morningside Arena to take part.
Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet, Curve, 13 – 18 May
Bursting with youth, vitality and Matthew Bourne‘s trademark storytelling, Leicester’s brightest young dance talent join the New Adventures company, with direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne, design by Lez Brotherston, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Paul Groothuis and new orchestrations of the Prokofiev score by Terry Davies played live by the New Adventures Orchestra.

The National Forest Walking Festival, 18 – 30 May
Now in it’s 12th year, this is a great opportunity to lace up your boots and join some knowledgeable bods as they help you to explore in and around 200 square miles of the National Forest. Discover historic towns and villages, enjoy wonderful countryside and learn more about the area’s rich and varied history. This year we have nearly 100 walks for you to choose from, plus a whole range of walking-related activities to keep you striding out in the Forest all year round.
Rutland Walking and Cycling Festival, 18 – 31 May
Get fit and enjoy the local scenery during this festival. With a full programme of different led walks and cycle rides, the festival includes a range of walks and paces from a leisurely stroll admiring the views to fast paced walks that will improve your fitness. 18th – 24th May offers a part of the epic Rutland Round 65 mile circular route and from 25th – 31st expect various walking and cycling routes that will showcase the beautiful countryside of Rutland. Make your Friday pop with this fun, free event celebrating everything that is banging about National BBQ Day.
