Bawdon Lodge Farm, The Greatest Showman Indoor Cinema and Sing-A-Long, Fri 6 July – Sat 7 July

Join in with the fab lyrics to this brilliant movie in the indoor cinema venue at Bawdon Lodge over two days. Book a ticket and choose from a enjoying a BBQ, drink and cinema tickets or forgo the BBQ! Take the mudlets on Sat afternoon for the sing-a-long event where the film commences at 3pm. There will also be a refreshment stand selling fruit, sweets and popcorn ice-cream cakes and more. Advanced tickets only.

NHS 70th Anniversary, Family Fun Day, Sun 7 July

Join the University of Leicester and local NHS Trusts for a free family fun day celebrating the 70th anniversary of the National Health Service. Come along and enjoy musical performances, health advice and checks, children’s activities, science experiments, arts and crafts, food and drink and and a Teddy Bears Clinic – aimed to help children understand what happens on a visit to the doctor Entry is free, and donations are welcome and will go to Leicester Children’s Hospital appeal. Register your interest here. 11- 3pm

Western Park Festival, Leicester, Sun 7 July

A fun day out for the fam as there is plenty to do for everyone, whether it is taking part in workshops within the kidszone, browsing the various stalls at the street market, sampling the delicious array of hot foods or just basking in the sunshine listening to local bands and acoustic artists. 11am – 8pm. £2 kids free.

Market Harborough, Classic Car Show, Sun 8 July

Don’t miss one of the biggest and most popular classic vehicle shows in the East Midlands featuring cars, motorbikes, scooters, commercial vehicles and modern classics as well as plenty of  food and drink stalls, activities and entertainment. Its free to enter, free to watch and there are prizes to be won. 10am – 4pm.

Twelfth Night, Oakham Castle, Rutland Sun 8 July

Ever heard of eco-friendly Shakespeare? Well now you can see it thanks to The HandleBards – the world’s first cycling theatre company. They cycle from venue to venue with all the set, props and costume necessary to perform environmentally sustainable Shakespeare across the globe and this weekend they are pedalling into Rutland to bring you some of Shakespeare’s finest plays. In usual HandleBards style, expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter. More info and tickets can be found on The HandleBards website.

Being called the modern-day Roald Dahl, David Walliams’ children’s books have delighted millions of young readers. There have been some brilliant adaptations of the books, and the most recent will not disappoint. For a fun family experience, take the kids to see Awful Auntie, and get lost in the magic of great storytelling.

There’s a brand-new festival in Leicestershire and it’s all to do with the National Forest. Hailed as the only international forest festival in the UK, this is not one to miss. With music, art, philosophy, and sustainability, not only is there a fun time to be had, but also the chance to raise awareness for the environment in this unique experience.

Ladies Day Festival, Oadby, Sat 7 Jul

Ladies, here’s the chance to get glammed up and have some fun at the races. That’s right, it’s Ladies Day at Leicester Racecourse. As well as viewing the top-class horseracing, you can wear your finest outfits and enjoy the entertainment on the day. Dancing is a must with performers like Lemar and Fleur East gracing the stage. Don’t forget those fascinators.

Battle Proms Concert, Stamford, Sat 7 Jul

A favourite amongst locals, the Battle Proms Concert at Burghley House is back. The spectacular evening, set in the grounds of the majestic house on the border of Rutland, includes fireworks, a parachute display and Beethoven’s Battle Symphony accompanied by no less than 193 canons! This certainly sounds impressive.

Honeytrees Tropical Garden, Bottesford, Sun 8 Jul

There’s a hidden secret in the top corner of Leicestershire, and it lies within the village of Bottesford. As part of the National Open Garden Scheme, enjoy a relaxing stroll around Honeytrees, a garden full of exotic plants. With the hot weather, it’s the perfect tropical escape.

Picnic in the Park, Lutterworth, Sun 8 Jul

Soap Box Derby, Hinckley, Sun 8 Jul

Sadly, entries for Hinckley’s annual Soap Box Derby are now closed, but that doesn’t stop from going along and watching this fun event. These inventive vehicles don’t have engines, instead relying on gravity. Join in the excitement and watch the thrilling races.
