Moira Canal Festival, Moira Furnace Museum, Sat 19 & Sun 20 May
For a weekend of family fun and a good cause, pop along to the Moira Canal Festival to learn about the work behind connecting Ashby Canal to the national waterways network. With historical re-enactment, a display of classic cars, Morris Dancing and children’s crafts, there’s plenty of fun to be had.

 The Catesbys Brocante, Rutland, Sat 19 May
Here’s a fair with a bit of flair! This France-inspired flea market (or brocante in French) is taking place in the private parkland of Exton Park in Rutland. There’ll be a marquee filled with hand-picked dealers and designer-makers bringing you new and vintage decorative items for your home and garden. Food and drink stalls will also be dotted throughout the grounds.

The National Forest Walking Festival, Swadlincote, Sat 19 May – Thu 31 May
The sunny weather’s been holding out so make the most of being outdoors with the National Forest’s Walking Festival.  Explore the landscape that make up the 200 square miles of lush woodlands with walks for all ages and abilities. Why not make it into a mini break and stay at the many B&Bs and lodges around the Forest. Some walks require booking at a charge but most do not. Visit The National Forest website for more details.

May Merriment, 1620s House & Gardens, Donington Le Heath, Sun 20 May
For a bonanza of games and activities make your way to Donington Le Heath which promises merry fun for the entire family with Maypole and Morris dancing, garden games and trails, and lots of craft activities. Take the chance and explore the rich history of the 1620s House and Garden and its fascinating link with the Gunpowder plot.

National Garden Scheme – Open Garden, Whatton Gardens, Loughborough, Sun 20 May
Enjoy a serene stroll through this beautiful 15 acre garden with many paths through the vast woodland. It features an abundance of spring bulbs, wild flowers, ornamental trees, a rose garden and a magnificent herbaceous border. There’s also a tearoom available with homemade cakes – a perfect way to relax and unwind.

Perfume Workshop, Rutland, Sun 20 May
Following the amazing success of their first sell-out workshop, British perfumer – Sarah McCartney from 4160Tuesdays is back! There’ll be an introduction to how perfume is made and then the fun part of creating your own unique fragrance to take home.
