Clarendon Park Arts Festival, Leicester, Fri 16 June – Sun 25 June

Running now for four years, this fun festival covers everything from science and philosophy and this year will include a variety of music, film, comedy, dance, literature, workshops, a treasure hunt and even a Baking competition and most events are free. I like the sound of the Salsa Workshop, Open Mic night and Qi Gong in the Garden. Head to the website for a full details.

Kibworth Book Fest, Kibworth Cricket Club, Kibworth, June Fri 16 June

Hugh Fraser, aka Captain Hastings, Hugh will be talking about his acting career as Poirot’s TV sidekick and his recently published crime novels. The books will be available to purchase on the night and Hugh will be signing and dedicating copies. The event is part of the annual Book Fest taking place around Kibworth this month. This event costs £5 and starts at 7.30pm.

Plukd Pop-Up, The Parcel Yard, Leicester Fri 16 June

Leicester’s newest foodie joint is setting up a series of pop-ups to give the public a taste of what’s on offer before they open up shop next month. The first one is being held today so get down there. Their wings are hand rubbed daily with a unique blend of herbs and spices. Their chefs then fry them until crispy and golden, before tossing them in a signature sauce. #nomnom

Racecourse Del Mar, Leicester Racecourse, Sat 17 June 

Rewind to the 80s and dance until the sun set with British Reggae band Aswad who will be performing live on stage. The duo will appear before the live action racing and will perform their hits including Don’t Turn Around and Shine plus a 90s club classics set from legendary Dance Anthems DJ, Dave Pearce. The event will also include a full programme of evening racing. Tickets for Racecourse Del Mar are priced at £20, which includes access to the live music and full programme of racing.

Clarendon Park Summer Fair, Leicester, Sun 18th June

A great day out soaking up the lovely Clarendon Park Community atmosphere, while supporting independent business, local entrepreneurs and all the great shops, restaurants and bars on Queens Road and Clarendon Park Road. There’ll be plenty of coffee, cocktails and food to enjoy. 11am – 5pm.

History Walk, Hollycroft Park, Hinckley, Sun 18 June

History buffs are invited to take a stroll around the award-winning park with local historian Greg Drozdz. Residents can learn about the park’s history from its early beginnings, as well as the war years, when all the plants were grown in green houses on site, and more. Tickets cost £3 per person and the proceeds will be donated to the museum. Event starts at 2pm and there will be music by JCC Big Band from 3pm.

Foxton Locks Festival, Sat 18 – Sun 18 June

A great day out with the family, the festival features trading boats selling food and crafts, dog shoes, live entertainment including local bands, an ale bar and food village, If you’d rather stay for the entire weekend pitch up a tent or bring along your caravan. Entrance is £7 for adults and free for children. Starts at 10am

Rutland Open Studios, Rutland, Sat 17 – Sun 18 June

This annual event sees local artists open up their studios (and in some case their homes) to view their work and where they work. Each weekend in June the public can can talk to the artists and find out about their techniques and passions. Expect a variety of artwork including paintings, printmaking, pottery, ceramics, textiles, photography, decoupage, glass and jewellery. Check website for more details.

Rutland Open Studios

Great British Dog Walk 2017, Belvoir Castle, Sun 18 June 

Go barking mad for the Great British Dog Walk taking place this Sunday. There will be 8km and 3km routes making it an ideal event for dog-lovers, as well as families and walkers. The Great British Dog Walk at Belvoir Castle is one of 20 fun-filled walks taking place around the UK to help ensure more hearing dogs can be trained to bring life-transforming benefits to the deaf. Refreshments, games and craft stalls can also be enjoyed and with the weather looking to be  a scorcher, why not bring a picnic to enjoy after the walk? Tickets to each event are £10 in advance for adults online at  or £12 on the day. The event kicks off at 11am. For more info head to the website here
