An Indian Summer, Sat 12 August – October

This annual event will transform the city into a colourful mecca of South Asian arts & culture with an outstanding line up of experiences. Experience an enthralling mixture of film, food, theatre, music, dance, talks, workshops & exciting art. Highligths include an outdoor cinema showing a Bollywood classic, 70 Rickshaws featuring colourful rickshaws ferrying visitors across the city, an exhibition at New Walk Museum exploring four centuries of Britain and India’s remarkable relationship, and an interactive outdoor installation using the latest technology to simulate kite flying, with breathtaking views.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Curve, Leicester, until Sun 20 Aug

Featuring a cast of 70 people aged 12 to 63, this epic reimagining brings aspiring actors together under the Made at Curve banner to present one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies. Enter Shakespeare’s play: Hermia loves Lysander, Lysander loves Hermia, Helena loves Demetrius and Demetrius loves Hermia. Under the light of the moon, we follow the story of our lover’s quartet as they become ensnared in magical mishaps in a fantastical forest at the hands of the mischievous fairy sprite Puck. The misuse of magic causes chaos amongst both the young lovers and fairies alike, wreaking romantic havoc and unfathomable happenings which can only be explained away as nothing more than a surreal dream…

World Elephant Day, Twycross Zoo, Sat 12 Aug (running at Twycross until Sun 13 Aug) 

Elephant celebrations return to Twycross Zoo this August as part of the World Elephant Day on Sat 12 Aug which has been extended to run across the weekend this year at the zoo.  Visitors can learn more details about each of the elephants at the Zoo from daily keeper’s talks at 11.15am there will also be elephantastic activities and talks at the Lorikeet Lawn and in the Elephant Pagoda. Fancy adopting an elephant? You’ll have the opportunity to do that too!

Wacky World, Leicester Arena, Fri 12 Aug
Struggle to keep your kids entertained? Want to keep them active? this could be for them…the UK’s biggest inflatable activity arena event is coming to town. Kids and adults can head to the one-day event and enjoy giant inflatable games, interactive challenges, a 60ft assault course, an inflatable human wrecking ball, a disco castle and much more. Mixing adrenaline inflatables, high energy activates & “get your own back” gameshows. Think Total Wipeout VS Get Your Own Back and you are not far off what Wacky World is all about. Book tickets here

Loughborough Mela, Sun 13 Aug

This fun, free event will feature an assortment of musical styles from South Asia and around the world – Indian Classical, Bollywood, Folk, World Music, Asian Fusion and Traditional British, plus, exciting dance acts and family activities celebrating South Asian and world culture. The event starts at 10am and will finish at 5pm, stage performances begin at 12 noon and will take place in Market Place in the town centre.

Feast Hinckley, Sat 12 Aug  Sun 13 Aug 

This exciting food and drink festival will take place exclusively within Argents Mead park and will  bring together 30 local food and drink vendors. There’ll be fun and games for the children including a bouncy castle, free balloon modelling and live music in the bandstand. Also on Sunday, 2017 Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist ‘Hoop Guy’ will be conducting a free hula-hooping and circus skills workshop suitable for all ages.

City Festival, Leicester, Sat 12 Aug- Monday 28 Aug

The City Festival celebrates Leicester in all its glory. Taking place over 17 fun-packed days, sites across the city centre will be filled with street entertainment, sports, culture, music, art, heritage and more.New for 2017 include a six day street festival featuring unique performances from national and international street artists; Night of Festivals South Asia and Leicester Music Trail, a range of special events showcasing the best of music and performances. Other highlights include a colourful Rickshaw Run and parade, a cosmopolitan carnival, City ride, that includes a unique pitch-side route through a Premier League football stadium and much much more.

Family Fun CookDays, Bridge 67 Cookery School, Fri 11 Aug

Bring the kids along and enjoy some fun cooking together time where they can make as much mess as they want. The course is the perfect way to introduce them to the world of cooking. The children get to do as much of the preparation and cooking as they want and chefs will be on hand to help when and if required.  Through this hands-on approach to cooking they learn how to read recipes, prepare ingredients and get the chance to eat with their team mates in a friendly, homely environment. Menu will it Italian themed and will include roast courgette and lemon risotto, chicken cacciatore, tomato and rosemary Focaccia and not forgetting dessert, vanilla and raspberry panna cotta – bellissima!
