If you’re history fan, then head to Great Central Railway’s annual 1940s Wartime Weekend. Commemorating life during the Second World War, thrills include a Spitfire aerial display on Sunday, Saturday evening tea dance and a visit from Winston Churchill. You can also catch the train to one of the other stations, with the 1940s theme running throughout the other stations on the line.

One of the highlights of Leicester’s events calendar is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever. The River Soar comes alive from Bede Park to Castle Gardens, with waterside fun for all ages. It’s certainly the only time you’ll get to see dragon boat races in the middle of Leicester! New additions in 2018 include the Broken Records Swing Festival at Castle Gardens, the Vegan and Eco Area, as well as Art on the River, where you can find local artisan crafts on display along the water’s edge.

Running for an impressive 186th year, the Rutland Country Show is well worth a visit. Rutland may be England’s smallest county, but it certainly has a great deal to offer and the show gives you a chance to appreciate the county in all its glory. There’s plenty to see and do here. Summer Art and Craft Fair, Scalford, Sun 3 June
Nestled away in the countryside, north of Melton Mowbray, the Old Brickyard Tea Garden in Scalford is playing host to their first Art and Craft Fair on Sunday. You can get involved and meet the makers, or even have a go at some crafts yourself. Freshly cooked food from the Tea Garden will also be available and the resident alpacas may pay you a visit too!

BrightLights Theatre School have added a modern twist to the classic, including a mix of rock, gospel, and soul music in this updated version.
