The local creatives behind The Indie Store
As we gingerly step back into the real world, it's more important than ever to support local. Here some of our Indie Store businesses recount their journey and show what makes them special

I live just outside of Rutland in Leicestershire and have always loved being creative and had an obsession with flowers. I set up my own jewellery business six years ago and focus on creating beautiful, nature-inspired jewellery. Lockdown has been tough for many, but the past year has been my best year yet. I’ve just invested in a new machine so I’ll be ale to start engraving products soon too.

Danielle and I (Marianne) took over the business almost two years ago. We met over our love of books, she was already working here and all I’ve ever known is selling books, it’s all I have ever done so the opportunity was fantastic. Even though the first lockdown shook the business, it’s flourished over the last few months and I’m delighted to see a trend back to reading and appreciating physical books and I hope it continues. No one book subscription is the same at Willoughby Book and we love nothing more than introducing readers to lesser-known gems.

I launched my healthy vegan food business zestEAT in lockdown #1 and it has been a real blessing making up for my fitness business being decimated by the pandemic. I’ve been getting incredibly positive feedback and it’s been a complete blessing. I did my raw vegan chef training with Wild Food Café in London. First came supper clubs then raw vegan cakes and then I decided to start up Letterbox Treats after I received a postcard sized box in the post. I make everything with 100% plant-based ingredients using natural wholefoods and no refined sugar.
