Dorset
This Reader Treat is a real humdinger. We’ve got a two-night stay for two people, with breakfast each morning and a three-course dinner on one of the nights, at the luxury Georgian townhouse hotel The Eastbury Hotel & Spa in the centre of historic Sherborne, Dorset.

A bottle of wine will await you in one of the hotel’s new Victorian Garden Potting Shed suites, which are situated in the hotel’s beautiful walled garden. From the outside, they look like traditional potting sheds (albeit with eco friendly moss and sedum/flower roofs) but inside you’ll find a super comfy luxury bedroom – Egyptian cotton bed linens, robe, slippers, tea and coffee with home made biscuits (natch) – and tri-fold doors that open out onto your own private terrace, ready for when you want to crack open that wine.

The en suite wet rooms with White Company toiletries are rather nice.

Step outside into the tranquil walled gardens.

Have lunch, afternoon tea or a cocktail in a glass sphere called The Pod. Try your hand at croquet, badminton, table tennis and large chess on the lawns. Or just snooze in a deckchair.

Hang out with a drink – or a game of chess – in the one of the hotel’s elegant rooms.

You’ll be having a three-course dinner on one of the nights in Seasons, the hotel’s 2 AA rosette restaurant, headed up up executive chef Matthew Street (Master Chef – the Professionals and Roux Scholarship finalist). This is the sort of grub he cooks up. Not bad.

If you can tear yourself away from the Eastbury’s delights, you could while away a few hours mooching around Sherborne’s two castles, Abbey and all the independent shops, galleries and cafes in and around Cheap Street. The famous Cerne Giant (the rude one), iconic Gold Hill in Shaftesbury (the Hovis ad), assorted museums and glorious gardens are all within half an hour’s drive. You can get to Dorset’s spectacular Jurassic coast in about 45 minutes.

Did we mention you could bring your dog? The hotel is super dog friendly (as is Sherborne generally) and your well-behaved dog is welcome to stay in your Potting Shed Suite with you. Woof! Woof!
