Meet Leicester’s most stylish lady
When it comes to fashion, Sukhina Garcia has got it nailed. She runs ladies boutique, Betty Brown which grabbed the gong for Best Women's Store in the Muddy Stiletto Awards 2018.
Some of you know her as Betty, I know her as Sukhina but regardless of her name, the lady sure knows her fashion! I’ve been a fan of her work for a few years now and, whereas I can’t even do a proper running stitch (sorry mama Muddy it’s true) it amazes me that she is completely self-taught in sewing and designing.
Here the seamstress reveals where she likes to chill-out and unwind. Take it away Sukhina…
I’m very fortunate to be living and working in the stylish Stoneygate area which means I am only a stone’s throw away from all my favourite gems.
Over the last two years, I’ve made big changes to my lifestyle and how I look after myself which has included going vegan, so it’s no surprise that my favourite store to shop in is Amelia Nour.
They sell a range of luxury, cruelty-free, vegetarian and organic beauty and wellbeing products which are so hard to get hold of unless you live in bigger cities. Here, I can buy beautiful and luxurious products that make me feel pampered while also being kind to the environment.
Sticking with the vegan theme… one thing that had always put me off going vegan was the thought of giving up of cheese and cake. Well I can eat my words now since I tasted the cakes at In-Haus. This very cool gift/furniture/coffee shop serves heavenly vegan cakes, St Martin’s roast coffee and also holds craft courses – it’s seriously inspiring.
For after work drinks and a little hidden gem, Toast Inn is the place to be although it’s not so hidden for me because I work next door! This gin bar is lovely in the winter with its open cosy fire and beautiful in the summer with its pretty lit garden.
Gins, cocktails, wines, champagne and the antipasti boards are always on point. I also love 33 Cank Street Bar in the city centre. ‘The seamstress’ cocktail is one of my favourites for obvious reasons, but what I love about this busy quirky bar is that there is always a whole new cocktail menu with fascinating flavour combinations.
My favourite restaurant is Timo’s. It’s always been a regular spot because I love good Italian food. The service and the intimate relaxed atmosphere is why you can’t keep me away, not to mention the food. Most of the time you end up at arms length from a sports personality which makes evenings and lunch times quite interesting. I also recently discovered the vegan menu at the Orange Tree which is delicious and the staff are so nice and entertaining.
Ten minutes walk away from Stoneygate, The Tiny Bakery on Clarendon Park Road, is really what it says it is; a tiny bakery BUT with the most AMAZING bread, pastries, cakes, sandwiches and coffee.
I believe in a healthy body and healthy mind and Griffin Fit in Clarendon Business Park keeps me in shape and keeps my wellbeing in check. The training and advice I get from them sets me up for the day and I can be more effective in my business and everyday life.
My favourite getaway has to be Aqua Sana Spa at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest now I know it doesn’t sound glamorous, but if you’ve ever been then you’ll know why I picked it and if you’ve not been then…what are you waiting for?!
I’m a massive spa lover and have been to over 25 different spas but this one really ticks all the boxes. I enjoy the panoramic forest views, volcano and ice cave experiences as well as the many relaxation rooms like the Scandinavian snug where I can just really switch off.
