Not heard of The Stag and Hounds? Well you have now.

This village pub in Burrough on the Hill, Melton Mowbray was formerly known as Grant’s Free House but has been taken over, renovated by new owners and head chef, Dominic Clarke and his wife Antonia.

The pub offers a menu that changes weekly and food with a slightly modern flair – think terrine of duck leg and liver, apple and celeriac and beetroot and goats cheese salad rump of lamb and more.

The new owners have already  set up their own veg trugs as they plan to make full use of the pub’s kitchen which will form the backbone of the menu from next spring so they can give customers a true local experience.

Beers are brewed right next door at the award-winning Parish Brewery and include Burrough bitter and they’ll also rotate guest beers from around the area including Oakham ales, Charnwood brewery from Loughbrough and the Round Corner Brewery based in Melton Mowbray.

Before heading up the kitchen here Dominic worked as head chef at The Barn at Moor Hall in Lancashire, where he earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand and two AA rosettes and he also worked at the Michelin-starred Gilpin lodge as sous chef.
