Sound the trumpets! Now that life is (slowly) going back to normal, there's finally gossip again! Here's the latest news for all you movers and shakers out there including lots of hot new foodie news and an intimate outdoors fest.
If you’re in need a of a new foodie fix ( don’t worry, it’s not another Indian restaurant) there’s a brand new Argentinian restaurant opening up in a beautiful Grade II listed building in the heart of Leicester city.
Sonrisa is the brain child of Birmingham-based Lasan Group founded by Jabbar Khan, who not only runs Lasan in Birmingham but also steakhouse, cocktail and Malbec bars, Fiesta Del Asado. At Sonrisa, customers will get the chance to feast on a range of traditional Argentinian food accompanied with cocktails and a range of South American wines.
The restaurant will take over the building formerly occupied by Delilah Fine Foods and is set to open in November.
Vegan fans may already have caught wind that Hun’s Vegan is opening up on Welford Road. They’re launching this week on 27 August and we cannot wait although to begin with they’re just offering delivery via Ubereats and collection.
Expect some delicious ‘chickHUN’ vegan burgers, loaded fries and lots of sweet stuff too inc Biscoff cheesecake and chocolate orange brownies. Ohh give me some, give me some. Look out for the queues. Welford Road LE2 6BL.
Meanwhile, sad news that French eatery Petite Chouette, Hinckley closed earlier this summer following lockdown, but hurrah to hear that a new cafe/bar has opened in its place. RuSiana is serving serves a a simple, cafe style menu including delicious deli-style sandwiches and crepes, as well sweet treats. The family-run eatery is also hoping to launch a dinner menu and themed evenings.
Missed out on a summer of festivals? Fear not, Leicestershire fest, 110 Above Festival is defying the best efforts of a global pandemic to present a super intimate campover (only 100 people) over 4-5 Sept. This will be a brilliantly relaxing outdoors fest, with a small stage playing mainly acoustic music sure to give a super chilled out vibes. Sounds like a wonderful way to spend a lazy afternoon don’t you think? There are only 35 pitches (and only 18 for Friday as it will be even more intimate) available so hurry hurry! Meanwhile, a brand spanking new bowling venue is opening in October. Lane7 already has venues in Liverpool and Birmingham and have set their sights on our neck of the woods.
Set in the city’s former railway station within the regenerated area around Great Central Street, you can expect 20,000 sq ft of fun, fun, fun including an entertainment ‘village’ serving food and drink and offering other gaming attractions (for those over 16) – we’re thinking possibly pool, ping pong tables and retro games plus, there will be a dedicated space outdoors for street food trucks.
