MAY 2021: New openings

Chomping at the bit to eat in a restaurant or head to the theatre? To add to all the excitement, I've got news of some brand-new openings this month! Ready? Let's go.

The Mill Birth and Wellbeing Centre, Duddington

This brand-new Birth and Wellbeing Centre is based in a stunning old watermill that dates back to 1664 in Duddington, near Stamford. Run by Alexandra Constant, a birth and postnatal Doula and a trained mindfulness teacher, the aim is for the centre to become a local hub, supporting everyone within the local community. Currently, she’s running a range of courses from Practicing Mindfulness to a Perinatal Trauma Recovery course. The Mill will also be offering yoga classes, massage treatments, complementary therapy, wellbeing classes, reiki and there’s still more to be confirmed. Exciting! The village open day is on 9 May and it will be open to the public from 11 May. Sounds like the start of something beautiful – right!?

Hammers and Pincers, Wymeswold, Leics

Award-winning Hammers and Pincers is planning to open 3 luxury ensuite rooms above its gastropub. It’s been a dream for owners, Sandra and Danny Jimminson for quite some time and lockdown has given them the opportunity to focus on making this dream a reality. They’re planning to open bookings for their ‘restaurant with rooms’ from 19 May so you know what that means – right? You can eat and drink to your hearts content safe in the knowledge that when night falls, your bed is just a few steps away. Once the rooms are ready, they’ll be serving a Saturday brunch too. Hurrah! Update: The rooms are scheduled to open in June now.

Sonrisa, Leicester

It’s been the buzz in the city for a few months now. Located in a landmark Grade II-listed building in the heart of Leicester city, you can expect so much more than just steak at this new modern Argentinian-inspired eatery. There’s also sharing plates and seafood including prawns with garlic, butter, red chilli and fresh parsley served on toasted Galician bread. You can enjoy all of this and more in the bright and airy restaurant that’s been filled with exotic greenery and an eclectic mix of furniture and decor. They’ve even built an open kitchen so you can see the chefs at work. Oh, and did we mention the sun-soaked terrace? A perfect spot to enjoy a socially distanced cocktail or two.

Fox Books, Leicester

A new book store is coming to town!

I’m super excited to learn that there’s a brand new bookstore coming to the city. Located in St Martin’s Square (right opposite The Bottle Garden), Fox Books is an independent store run by Leuan Cox which will be stocking mainly new fiction with a small section dedicated to non-fiction and childrens’ books too. Hello reading streak! Opening May 2021.

The Hall Barns, Loughborough, Leics

A gorgeous rustic venue tucked away in rural countryside surroundings, The Hall Barns is housed in a lovingly restored 19th century barn in a picturesque, secluded spot. Inside there’s wooden rafters, exposed brickwork and timber floors, the rustic aesthetic is a perfect blank canvas for your event. There’s room for outdoor ceremonies on the Top Lawn but the Crewyard (pic above) is the place to be when the party starts – we’re loving the indoor/outdoor vibe plus, it’s all dog-friendly. Opening May 2021.
