Twycross Zoo, Gruffalo Land, from 9 April
Don’t you know, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo…or is there? This new, four-acre land, will bring together the much-loved characters, from The Gruffalo, inspired by the bestselling children’s book The Gruffalo. Enjoy real-life animals, animatronics, film clips and more, plus, you’ll also encounter Fox, Owl, Snake, Mouse and the Gruffalo along their interactive journey through the deep, dark wood.
Easter in Wonderland, Whatton House, 9-10 & 15-18 Apr
Join Alice on her exciting journey through Easter In Wonderland. It’s a magical adventure with activities for all the family – including our specially produced Mad Hatter’s Circus Show – all set in the enchanting grounds of wonderful Whatton House. Look for secret clues all around the grounds, meet the White Rabbit but beware the right royal rage of the Queen of Hearts and her Playing Card Guards.
There will be plenty of Egg-citement at Rockingham Castle, 17 -18 April. Kids can collect a leaflet and start exploring the garden and follow the Kings and Queens Easter Trail. Once they’ve completed the booklet, they can collect an Easter Egg! Meanwhile over in Rutland, there’s lots to see and do for little ones at Oakham Castle, 12 April including the chance to make some Easter-inspired arts and crafts including felt egg decorations, make chick cards, gift bags and masks. £5 per child but places are limited and booking is essential. More Easter fun at Barnsdale Gardens 15-22 Apr and kids can explore the gardens and hunt to collect some Easter egg clues. Collect all the clues and each child gets a chocolatey Easter treat! Easy easy!
Ever wondered where all the Easter chocolate comes from? Well visit the The Easter Bunny Grotto, in TwinLakes Melton Mowbray, 2-24 Apr and find out. Travel through a land of chocolate heaven, take in the stunning views, smells and see the magical world of Easter, then meet the Easter Bunny himself, have the opportunity for a professional photo and then enjoy your free gift.
For something different, head to the Easter Holiday Animal Fun, at Great Central Railway, 19 -21 Apr and hang out with Elvis, Tula, Petal and Tiny Tim, – some adorable furry and hairy animals. Plus there will be a mini fun fair, Punch & Judy show and more. Tickets from £11. Also here will be the Easter Vintage Festival from 15 – 18 Apr – there’s will be gallopers and a big wheel, traction engines, craft stalls, vintage cars, commercials and tractors. More Easter Hunt, at Donington Le Heath, 9-24 Apr and an Easter Bunny Hunt, Bosworth, until 15 Apr. Wander through Belvoir’s formal gardens, solving Easter activity puzzles along the way. You may even bump into the Easter bunny and his friends as you travel around the colourful Easter Activity Trail, Belvoir Castle, 1-18 Apr. An Easter Activity Trail worksheet and easter egg is included in a child’s Garden Entry Ticket. Under 4s go for free and head over to the Easter Weekend Pop -Up Market, 16-17 april over at The Engine Yard. For a little bit of fun, watch Rapunzel at Mountsorrel Memorial Centre, 20 Apr and enjoy a tangled tale featuring pop songs, magic and puppets or watch an amateur production of The Smartest Giant in Town 28-29 Apr over at the Uppingham Theatre.
