PICK OF THE WICKS: FAVOURITE FRAGRANT CANDLES

The best scented candles I've found locally - perfect for gifts (and, er, self-gifting). And relaaaaax.

I’ve interviewed a good many interior designers in my time and they all love a good scented candle – who doesn’t right? It’s the perfect thing to do to make your home feel cosy and inviting especially if you’ve got guests coming over. But what if you haven’t got guests coming over or spend your evenings, like me, either in front of a laptop or cleaning up the mess the kids have left?
So this season I’ve decided to treat myself to a candle or three so when the kids have finally drifted off into the land of nod, I’ll be lighting up my life (well actually, my living room) with these cool candle brands.

Avanti Candles

You’ve got to admire Avanti Candles. The brand has been set up by Neil who has worked in the health industry for a few years now and is fully aware of how damaging some candles can be to your health. As a lover of candles himself,  he started researching a more sustainable and eco-friendly way of enjoying luxurious home fragrances.

Fast forward a few years and Avanti Candles was born. All the candles are hand poured at home by Neil himself and made with natural soy wax which is vegan-friendly and kind to the environment. Knowing what makes candle connoisseurs tick, he uses the highest quality blends of essential and fragrance oils and the wooden wick also creates a wonderful ‘crackle’ and a beautiful flickering flame as the candle burns.

The minimal design with the stand-out black label means means they’ll pretty much fit in anywhere in your house. I’m loving the earthy Fig and Vetiver one – it comes with base notes of oakmoss, vetiver, amber and cedar and subtle tones of citrus fruits, tonka and anise. If you’re shopping for Christmas, there’s a range of festive ones including Mulled Wine and Frosted Pine. Muddy readers all get a 10% discount when using MUDDY10.

Just Jules

One of my fave brands, you may be quite surprised to learn that Just Jules doesn’t just do jewellery (that’s quite a mouthful) she also does deliciously scented candles – I should know I’ve burned them all. My personal fave is her Moroccan Rose  wax candle.

Made with 100% vegetable wax of soya, rapeseed and palm and mixed with blend of pure oil. There’s also no paraffin wax, animal products or beeswax used in this product. Known for its stress relieving properties, this candle comes with floral notes and woody base tones and is the perfect one for frazzled minds (me, me, me) and will turn your living room into a Moroccan rose garden. The delicious fragrance lasts around 40-50 hours.

Lolly Rocket

These soy candles – from just over Leicestershire border – are made by owners Hayleigh and Michelle who have blended and poured them since Lolly Rocket began. Their deliciously scented Pumpkin Spice ‘Let’s Stay Home’ candle is super popular and are limited edition ones so get them while you can. They come in either a clear or amber jar so you can choose which one you prefer and gives you a whopping 80 hours of burn time.

This gorgeous candle has the perfect mix of sweet and warming spices – perfect for cuddling up and getting cosy as the longer nights creep in – like right about now.

Do you have a brand you can’t get enough of? Let me know in the comment below.
