Sunday roast takeaway

Don't fancy cooking for the family this weekend? I hear you, which is why I've hunted down some of the best takeaway roasts to enjoy during lockdown across Leicestershire and Rutland.

The Wheatsheaf, Greetham

Home to one of Rutland’s loveliest beer gardens, The Wheatsheaf is offering a takeaway menu for their stonking roasts. On the menu is chef Carol’s homemade onion bread, served with Cabernet Sauvignon vinegar and extra virgin olive oil (I’m telling you she doesn’t do things by half). For mains choose from either a roast fillet of Seabream, rump of beef or pork and beef and of course all of those hearty trimmings. Dessert doesn’t get much better than her chocolate brownie.

Horse and Jockey, Congerstone, Market Bosworth

There’s beef, chicken, lamp rump or a veggie pie on offer to tempt you at this village local with extra goodies to go with it like a cauliflower cheese, homemade herb stuffing, gravy and more. Throw in a sticky toffee pudding and you’ll be well and truly satisfied.

Hammer and Pincers, Wymeswold Loughborough

Sandra and Daniel Jimminson started their takeaway lockdown menus during the first lockdown and they’ve been a complete sell out – no surprises there. Taking the much-loved weekend meal seriously, you can expect perfectly cooked roast beef, market meat or fish with all the delicious trimmings plus, seasonal starters and dessert of course.

The Waterside Inn Mountsorrel, Leicestershire

Choose a delicious lamb rump with your choice of roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, mash, seasonal vegetables, sage and onion stuffing, Yorkkies and more, all pre-plated and ready for collection. It doesn’t get much easier than that. There’s also pigs in blankets and even a Carvery to lap up if you wish.

The Settling Rooms, Market Harborough

Brightening up your Sundays with a delicious Sunday roast served with broccoli, maple roasted carrots and parsnips, garlic, rosemary roasties, Yorkshire pudding and red wine jus. There’s a vegan wellington on the menu plus a kids roast for the mudlets to tuck into and they’re offering 20% discount for takeaway.

Ascough’s Bistro, Market Harborough

Order a ‘cook at home’ roast dinner from this popular Harborough restaurant and you’ll get everything you need to enjoy a full roast dinner for four with starters and dessert too. Pop the potatoes and meat (choose from pork shoulder, lamp or beef) in the oven and warm up your veggies and gravy and you’re good to go. Order on a Friday, collect Saturday and cook on Sunday. Sorted!

Black Iron, Leicester

Want to take things up a notch? Try the Chateaubriand Sunday roast box and enjoy your favourite trimmings and a delicious sticky toffee pudding with orange jam and clotted cream for two. All freshly prepared with step by step instructions included for you to finish cooking at home.

All info is correct at time of writing, but be sure to check with the venue for latest updates.
