NEWSFLASH: Restaurants to keep an eye out for

Word on the local restaurant scene is that two brand new foodie joints are set to open up very soon. Here’s what we know so far.

Wantons Bar

Local Chinese chef and food fanatic Kwoklyn Wan is set to open his first ever restaurant in his hometown of Leicester. I met up with Kwok a few months ago and picked his brain about where he likes to go for good Chinese food (hoping to get some good tips) and he quietly mentioned that he was opening a brand new restaurant concept soon but was tight lipped about it.

Now this chef knows a thing or two about food; in 1962 his grandad opened the first ever Chinese restaurant in Leicester and Kwok already runs a successful cookery school (you can read a recent review here) and hosts a variety of pop up tasting sessions.

An idea of what may be served at Wantons Bar

Well now it look like his new venture, Wantons Bar (see what he did with the restaurant name?) is set to open very soon. It seems that from the pictures he’s posting on Instagram, the restaurant will be inspired by the Hong Kong street food scene and will feature a food cafe and beer bar. Sounds interesting. You can expect Chinese staples like dumplings, Bao, as well as noodle and rice dishes.

The Bottle Garden

The other restaurant I’m really excited to visit is something completely different. The Bottle Garden is set to open in October I’ve been told and will be a brand new car/cafe concept in St Martin’s Square, a great place that’s already thriving with a few indie restaurants. It’s being launched by the Suffolk family who already run a garden shop in Wistow and something similar in the city’s stoneygate area. They offer contemporary and unusual items for the garden and also serve delightful coffee and cakes in a real inspiring setting.

The new venue will have a different feel to other bars/cafe and it looks like they will play up their outdoor garden theme and I am guessing they will probably have some pretty garden features inside and elements of the outdoors inside this new venue. The bar cafe will most likely be open for lunch and will also be serving some tasty cocktail concoctions. #watchthisspace.
