Back to Eat

Now the kids are back to school, enjoy these gram-worthy local hotspots across Leicestershire and Rutland where the backdrop is as good as the food.

Not only do the grounds of this Victorian house overlook one of the most envilable spots in Rutland, the food is Michelin-starred, the decor is stunning and the gardens are magnificent. The gorgeous green areas cover some 17 acres and include a warm south-facing terrace and the and the decor is delightful too – think colour and beautiful antique fabrics and furnishings. The challenge for you, dear reader will be finding the best spot for the Gram.

You’ll be tickled pink when you visit this brand spanking new eatery. Pretty as a picture, the cafe and patisserie opened less than two weeks ago by friends Leanne Piper and Sam Matson. Decor is inspired by the likes of Peggy Porschen and the EL&N Cafe so expect lots of pink and faux florals. The girls have worked together for a few years and share the same passion for food so it was a no-brainer to open up a foodie spot in their hometown. Expect small breakfast plates, lunch and brunch plus a selection of handmade cakes, brownies and weekly specials. Get ready to snap your Spanish Rose Latte by this blooming gorgeous wall. Your Instagram grid will thank you!

Buenos días Leicester! This modern cafe/bar/restaurant had a head start on its good looks by being located in one of the city’s most beautiful Grade II listed building. Sonrisa (which means smile in Spanish) is all about eating delicious Argentinian food – think garbanzo, chicken parilla and Iberian lamb loin – in bright and cheery surroundings. Faux greenery and rattan pendants hang from the ceiling meanwhile, cool teals, burnt oranges, light gold and mustard accents and accessories are dotted around this spacious eatery making it muy hermoso!

This is the kind of place that you’d be proud to call your local and show off to visiting friends and family because it serves great food in stylish surroundings. Walls are heaving with prints, mirrors and the box frames are filled with quirky accessories. Elegant jacquard curtains frame the main restaurant and beyond, spacious brown leather booths and impressive wall murals really make this place stand out from the rest.

A firm Muddy fave, this gorgeous gastropub – a previous Muddy winner and named Pub of the Year by The Good Pub Guide 2021 – really does take it to the next level on both the food and decor front. The adorable traditional stone-built country cottage has a beautiful blooming garden out front, filled with seasonal flowers and shrubs. Inside antique furnishings, quirky tables and chairs are mixed with pine kitchen tables and benches and the seasonal food is truly delicious. Homemade lemonade is served in the garden during summer and in winter it’s just as magical, with twinkly fairy lights and chestnuts roasting on their crackling log fires. What’s not to love?
