SEOWL BOWL, Leicester
Delicious Korean-inspired Buddha bowls filled with rice, noodles, a colourful array of veggies and spices. The family-run eatery opened late last summer in Stoneygate with the aim to pack their bowls with the the basic macronutrients needed for a balanced and healthy diet. Their buddha bowls feature flavours from around the world including Mexican (think spicy chipotle sauce, mixed slaw, kidney beans) and Lebanese (falafels, sweet potato, fattoush salad, pomegranate, sesame seeds) plus vegan and gluten-free options are available too. We’ll try one of everything please!
JAGA ORGANICS, Market Harbs
Delicious organic food that’s sourced sustainably and served alongside some banging beats – that’s basically that jAGA is all about. The menu has everything from smashed avo to salad bowls and there’s a menu for the kids too. If you want to cut down on the calories, add some healthy organic extras to a smoothie in the form of grass-fed collagen, acai, matcha, spirulina, pea protein and more or, pick from the new low carb menu. Head here for Sunday and enjoy brunch and beats with live music.
KINNARA, Ashby de la Zouch
What started with a simple menu featuring chicken and rice has now evolved and now Kinnara’s menu features a variety of dishes from all over Asia. The general vibe is healthy and tasty using fresh – mostly organic – ingredients. There’s roti parata with chickpea curry, veg Biryani, Singapore prawn curry, Nasi Padang, slow cooked beef Rendang and even air-fried chicken rice. It’s all about fresh food, not fast food so it’s definitely worth the wait.
KURU KURU SUSHI, Leicester
Don’t judge this place before you’ve stepped inside. The sushi is made right in front of you and it’s one of the most popular places for authentic sushi in town and it’s not all raw fish! They’ve got lots of veggie options too including avocado and cucumber rolls, miso soup, veg gyozas and lots of hot food options too. If you prefer your pillows of rice with fish, then we suggest trying the mixed sushi platters then you can enjoy a little bit of everything.
For healthy Asian street food, you can’t get better than Pho. Focussing on Vietnamese food, choose from their delicious spring rolls, fresh salads but it’s their popular Pho soup that’s the winner here. It’s a bone broth soup that is simmered long enough to extract all of the goodness making it a restorative dish with oodles of flavour. Not convinced? Then try the spicy salad rolls, wok fried noodles or super green veggie broth or a low-calorie (but healthy) meal.
Another eatery with bowl in the name but this place doesn’t just serve bowl food. They’re a healthy takeaway and also serve breakfasts, wraps, super-food smoothies and powerful protein shakes – a perfect pick-me-up after your gym sess! The gut-friendly overnight oats comes topped with berries, granola, chia seeds and honey to give you a real boost of energy for the morning!
