From a Jamaican plant-based menu to a stylish new restaurant plus, fancy your cheese and chutney with a side of stationery goodness? Well feast your eyes on these hot local openings.
DOM RESTAURANT, THURLASTON, LEICS
Tuck into inventive tapas using British ingredients, inspired by food from around the world at this new family-run restaurant. Expect everything from street food to fine dining with dishes including Korean style brisket, salmon tacos, vegan meatballs, scallop ceviche, yellow-fin tuna and more. Run by Polish-born, Aga and Italian chef Vincenzo (previous head chef at The Poacher’s Brasserie), it seems they’re bringing something incredibly different to rural Leicestershire and we can’t wait to check it out. Now open.
WHAW GWAN YARD, LEICESTER
Thought Jamaican food was all curry goat and jerk chicken? Think again! This brand new restaurant (love the name BTW) is taking the concept of Jamaican food and spinning it on its head by creating a tasty plant-based menu inspired by traditional Jamaican flavours. You’ll be able to enjoy plantain waffles and pancakes for brunch right through to curry bowls, burgers for dinner, but we love the sound of their No Moo Beef Patties, it’s seriously Jamaican-me-crazy (geddit!?). The good news is, you don’t need to wait long as they’re opening on 15 April.
CHEESE AND PICKLE, GREAT GLEN, LEICS
Many of you may not have head of Pennbury Farm, but it’s definitely worth a visit, especially now that this brand new deli and homeware shop has opened. Run by Kate Foster (who also runs Paper House) she’s combined her love of stationery and food all under one roof, so now you can enjoy cheese, chocolate and chutney alongside gorgeous stationery, puzzles and papery goodness. Shopping trip ahoy, methinks!
