Illustrator Katy Halford
has been sketching for as long as she can remember. Her work includes a variety of illustrated characters and imaginary worlds including Moz the Monster, the adorable giant seen in the new John Lewis Christmas ad.
Katy lives and works in Leicestershire, so she knows a thing or two about the local area. Here’s where she likes to hang out.
It’s beautiful to visit any time of the year. I like to park in Stamford and walk up to the house, it has lovely grounds with wildlife. It’s a great place to clear the head and take in the fresh air.

I love Stamford for shopping, it’s a gorgeous little town with great shops. There’s a quite a few independent shops with cute quirky finds, perfect for someone like me! There’s also some nice places to grab something to eat or drink like The George just up the high street.
I have fond memories from my younger years of long walks and picnics on summer days in Bradgate Park. I still visit from time to time now.
Any Waterstones is an absolute joy for me to visit, I love going and almost every time I visit I buy a new book (I have a whole children’s library in my studio!). I head straight for the children’s book section to see the latest books on the shelves. There’s so much inspiration in there and you can’t beat seeing it in print.

Beautiful scenic reservoir, perfect for long walks, bike rides and exploring the woodland. There’s also sailing and you can watch the wild life, it’s a great family day out or just nice for a peaceful walk. I have great childhood memories of this place!
Really yummy tasty food in a gorgeous pub/restaurant. The service and food is always top-notch, very friendly and great atmosphere!
