Tasty takeaways to tuck into
Just like that my birthday plans go out the window. Instead, I'll be staying home and tucking into one of these tasty takeaways. Can I tempt you too?
Omotenashi Dining, Leicester
Omotenashi basically is about the the art of selfless hospitality and is a cornerstone of Japanese culture so its no wonder that Yuko has a loyal following. Over lockdown she is offering a fantastic Japanese menu beyond just sushi and noodles. She’s literally a one-woman band who prepares all the dishes herself – true, authentic, homemade Japanese food! Her November menu is filled with authentic delights like Poke bowl and crunchy Asian salad, Terikayaki chicken bento box and plenty of gyoza dumplings too. Next service 13 and 20 Nov. Dishes starts from £4.
Simon Spooner, Ketton Rutland
He’s back at it! Award-winning private chef, Simon Spooner is creating creating stunning three-course meals but this time it’s a seasonal menu to suit the darker, colder nights. Expect classic comfort dishes that will hopefully give you a much-needed ‘pick me up’. There’s pulled pork croquettes, wild mushroom arancini as well as butternut squash lasagne and there is also a rich and spicy lamb rogan josh. Order as early as possible as delivery slots are limited. Free Delivery within 10 miles drive of Ketton. Pick up from Ketton and national courier delivery also available. Cut-off for orders is Wednesday at 5pm and minimum order £50
The Hammer and Pincers, Wymeswold
Since the first lockdown it seems owners Sandra and Danny have not stopped to catch a breath. Their takeaway option has been so popular they’ve just carried it on so it’s full steam ahead. This week they’ve got a Persian picnic filled with Harissa roast leg of lamb on lamb shoulder tagine, apricots and pumpkin seeds, tabouleh as well as roast cap mushroom, toasted pearl barley, feta and herbs £30 per person. Saturday you can enjoy a grazing menu and next week it’s all about Asian street food. Think Korean fried chicken on nasi goring rice and massaman curry, sweet potato, sugar snaps, courgette and broccoli. I’ll take one of everything please.
Want great tasting rustic Italian food? Try Boboli’s Heat to Eat menu. You basically order it, collect it cold and heat to eat it at home – good news for Mr Muddy’s as this is his fave Italian restaurant. They’re offering a variety of dishes to order online and currently have Nonna’s traditional lasagne layered with thinly sliced ham, cheese souffle, beef carpaccio, cannelloni stuffed with mushrooms, pork and beef, baked with mushrooms and cheese sauce and of course desserts including panna cotta and tiramisu. Dishes can change weekly and are priced individually. Collection is every Tues- Fri.
Pomelo and Rocket, Leicester
Don’t think I’ve forgotten about all the vegans out there. Pomelo and Rocket used to run a small cafe but now they offer a plant-based catering service with a weekly changing menu. Food is usually themed around a specific cuisine – think Spanish to Turkish and everything in-between. Dishes can be ordered for delivery every weekend between 4-6pm Sat and 11- 1pm Sun. Italian is on the menu this week and dishes include charred aubergine parmigiana tart, creamy mushroom ricotta and spinach cannelloni and of course tasty tiramisu. 1 course £9, 2 courses £12 and 3 courses £16.50.
