CULTURE: Oakham Festival, Sun 23 June – Sun 30th June
Expect exciting events including TV comedians, music and activities. Highlights from the week include a concert packed full of classical favourites, folk and show tunes on Monday 24 June (7pm), and ghost related activities. Events are held at various locations throughtout Oakham, with tickets available to purchase for each event within the festival.
MUSIC: Revive Festival, Leicester, 15 – 30 June
It’s time to head back to the sixties. Experience vintage fairs, live sixties music and events, vinyl records, street food, family fun over three weekend, with 40 events expect a real Summer of Love. Bringing the sights and sounds of bygone eras to the city streets and this year’s focus is on the Mod movement and the 1960s in various venues including DeMontfort Hall, New Walk Museum, LCB Depot, The Haymarket, Curve, Phoenix, Highcross and a host of bars, pubs, clubs and cafes to embrace the swinging sixties.
Rough Draft has been put together by a group of Leicester creatives, offering 15 minute slots to showcase anything you’re working on. Expect to see comedy, music and poetry to name a few, and interactive discussions with the audience. 7.30pm
DRINK: Mon Amie Botanical Cocktail Making, Thurs 27 June
Learn about everything from the history of cocktails to insider mixologist tips in this hands-on cocktail making class. Led by expert Marie Perry, from Three Little Birds, the class will showcase cocktails inspired by the venue, The Barn, with a fusion of floral and fruity notes. Tickets are £40. 6pm-9pm

THEATRE: The Curve, COLOUR PURPLE opens Friday 28 Jun
The Tony award winning musical opens in Leicester for its stint at the Curve theatre until 13th July. Based on the novel written by Alice Walker, and the MGM film, The Colour Purple follows 40 years of the life of heroine Celie as she fights to find her voice in the world.
Given the racially divided, southern American setting, the soundtrack is a vibrant mix of jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues, sure to provide a toe-tapping evening. Suitable for ages 14+.

THEATRE: Aretha: Respect, Haymarket Theatre, Opens Fri 28 June
Aretha: Respect celebrates the life of the legendary Aretha Franklin, and chronicles her life and career over four decades. The icon, who is considered to be one of the greatest vocal talents of all time, is portrayed by Janine Johnson accompanied by Malcom Maddock and his 8 piece band and will play some of the greatest soul hits to date. Tickets are available from £24.

Swingaree is a monthly swing and jazz social offering the opportunity of a taster dance class followed by live music from 1920’s inspired jazz and blues band The Lazy Alligator. No dance partner is needed. Tickets are available from Eventbrite. 14+
THEATRE: Confessions Of American Serial Killers, Y Theatre Leicester Thur 27 June
An evening with Paul Harrison, the world’s number one expert on serial killers. He has spent over four decades analysing and studying many of the world’s most deviant and violent offenders.
