Feb Half Term Fun

How can it be February half term already? From comic book workshops to comedy club for the kids, flying magical beds, mystery family movie nights and more! Here's the Muddy Guide to what's on locally.

HEADLINE EVENT: UK Kids Comedy Festival, 2 – 20 Feb

Stuck for some fun this half term? Take the kids to the Laugh Term Comedy School where 11-14 year olds will perform comedy. There’s also a cabaret club, children’s readings, dressing up fun, Bingo adventures, a comedy club for kids and lots more all this February half term.

The Extraordinary time-travelling adventures of Baron Munchausen, Attenborough Arts Centre, 18-19 Feb

Brilliant, award-winning comedians and improvisors tell extravagant stories all based on the amazing Adventures of Baron Munchausen. There will be swords, and duels, and elephants and castles built of cheese, and all of it is completely and irrefutably true. 11am – 12pm. £5.

Dragon Crafts for Children, Oakham Castle, 15 Feb

Do your kids love a little art and craft? Book tickets to this event and they can make puppets, cards, decorations, masks and more, all inspired by Chinese and Welsh dragons. Also have a go at the dragon hunt. The £5 ticket includes a drink and biscuit from the Castle Cottage cafe. Limited places.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Curve, 9 – 13 Feb

Disney’s classic movie makes its world premiere as an exciting magical musical at Curve. When the three orphaned siblings are evacuated from wartime London to live with the mysterious Eglantine Price, they have no idea she’s a witch! Armed with an enchanted bedknob, a bewitched broomstick and a magical flying bed, they encounter surprising new friendships on their journey from Portobello Road to the depths of the beautiful briny sea. Share this childhood classic with the kids this half term, I know I will!

Oi Frog and Friends, Curve 16 – 20 Feb

Join FROG, CAT and DOG in Oi Frog & Friends!, the Olivier Award nominated action-packed stage adaptation of Kes Gray and Jim Field’s bestselling books. Expect songs, puppets, laughs and more rhymes than you can shake a chime at.

Encanto Inspired workshop, Little Voices, Rutland, 15 Feb

Knightmare Live, Y Theatre, Leicester

Anyone remember Knightmare – the TV game show? Well Knightmare Live, the award winning stage adaption of the cult television show Knightmare is back! After a long temporal disruption the quest is on giving you the chance to don the iconic Helmet of Justice and try your luck against Lord Fear’s Dungeon.

The Spark Festival 2022, Leicester and Leicestershire 7- 13 Feb

This wonderful arts festival gives children opportunities to immerse themselves in the arts. This half term week, there’s family events, workshops, performances and more and it’s not just for little ones; we love the sound of DJ and graffiti workshops.

A brand-new gig for 0–5-year olds which will immerse you in a swirling world of colour and take you on a musical journey through afro-centric soulful folk, jazz and scat. WAW! We’re All Winners, Attenborough Arts Centre, 16 Feb

This jam-packed jamboree of daft games, dances, songs, slapstick and cardboard. Dad-and-daughter double act Ian and Niamh present a fun, feel-good show for children (and adults if you feel like it). Never win anything? Not today. Part of the Leicester Comedy Festival.

Space Launch UK, Nat Space Centre, Leics, 12- 21 Feb

Get ready to launch the UK into space this half term with rocket launches, a live, exciting and explosive show, exploring the history of rockets, space satellites as well as workshops, shows and find out what ‘science busking’ is too! Perfect for budding astronauts both big and small.

Film Club – Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Nat Space Centre, 14 Feb

For one night only, sit back in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium and enjoy a screening of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Luke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire’s world-destroying battle station, and let’s not forget Darth Vader!

Macrame Workshop, Eco Village, Market Harb, 12 Feb

Make your own hanging plant pot holder using sustainable materials to provide beautiful home decorations. These Hanging Pot Holders work best with a flower pot 10-12cm diameter. You can bring your own from home, or borrow one to size your hanger on the day. Places are limited. £35 per person.

There’s so much happening over half term here. Book them into art classes or a clay workshop plus, there’s comic book and friendship bracelets workshops for the bigger kids.

Children’s Cookery Class, Manor Farm, 16 Feb

A fun course for 7-11 year old to inspire and enthuse children to cook healthy recipes and try new ingredients.  Recipes can include anything from sausage plait, chicken fillets with popcorn coating or Spanish tortilla. All courses can be suitable for vegetarians. £50.
