7 ways to celebrate Father’s Day

Taxi driver, sports coach, cash machine… dads rock! If you’re stuck on what to do with dad this Father’s Day take some inspiration from us. (Psst! it’s on Sun 19 June).

Former England cricketer, Matthew Hoggard is heading to Loughborough’s Whatton House with his BBQ cookery school, Hoggy’s Grill to serve up a special pop-up Father’s Day feast. Taking place in the spectacular grounds on the 19 June dads will be able to enjoy pulled pork rolls with apple sauce and stuffing, fully loaded smash burgers or smoked chicken BBQ bloomers. Veggie options will also be avail, plus a free beer for dad and a kids menu too. Book a 12pm or 2pm sitting. Tickets £35 and £12 for kids.


The World Record-Breaking live comedy game show Wifi Wars is in town and you and your dad can join and play along! Log in with your smartphone or tablet and compete in a range of games, quizzes and challenges to win prizes! Hosted by comedian and regular video-games commentator, Steve McNeil (Team Captain on hit TV show Dara O’Briain’s Go 8 Bit). Performed live at the Y Theatre.


Otters Fine Food in Oakham have a huge selection of hand-picked gourmet hampers. They’re filled with fine wine, artisan cheese, smoked fish and much more. If you dad is a self-confessed foodie, we think the luxury hamper could be just the ticket!



Previous Muddy award winner, Fourwards are putting on a special Father’s Day menu that includes lamb, beef and a veggie option too and you can wash it all down with a tipple from their new wine list too. Alternatively, book a table at Nossa, Market Harborough now open on Sundays and tuck into miso black cod, confit garlic and thyme pork fillet, a wild mushroom and truffle risotto or more. The Grange Garden Centre in Melton Mowbray have got a special Father’s Day menu on too and a free pint for dads.


Enjoy unrestricted access into the world of Burleighs Gin with a behind the scenes distillery tour. Book tickets for your dad and find out some industry secrets and see exactly what goes into creating a bottle of Burleighs Gin. You’ll even get to meet ‘Messy Bessy,’ the custom-made Copper Pot Still. The tour includes a delicious Burleighs Gin & Tonic on arrival, a full distillery tour and a guided tasting of the Burleighs Range and lasts 90 minutes.


Motorbike enthusiasts will get to enjoy a day out admiring range of BMW motorcycles as this year, the BMW Motorbike Club is heading to Belvoir Castle on the 19 June and bringing a display of their very best machines with them. Dad will be able to get up close and personal with a number of bikes that will be exhibited on the Castle Cannonade. Vroom vroom!


Dads will get the chance to pull their own pints at The Grainstore Brewery in Oakham this month. While here they can tuck into a Father’s Day lunch and then join the free tour at 3pm.
