Not the romantic type? Here's Muddy's top 10 offbeat picks for Valentine's Day fun that won't make you cringe.

GO TO THE CINEMA

Phoenix Cinema, Leicester are showing the classic Some Like It Hot tonight! Expect music, mayhem and more in this riotous flick! Meanwhile, Uppingham Films are showing the film, Leave No Trace. In it, a father and daughter live a perfect but mysterious existence in Forest Park, near Portland, Oregon, but when a small mistake tips them off to authorities, they need to find another place to call their own. Meanwhile Showcase Cinema De Lux, Highcross Leicester are showing the 90’s classic chick flick, Pretty Woman from 7pm.

A DAY AT THE RACES

Not sure what the weather will hold for you but it definitely won’t dampen your spirits here as you can still enjoy a two course meal indoors and watch all the racing action at Leicester Racecourse. You’ll get a glass of pink Prosecco on arrival, chocolate covered strawberries, and a red rose on the table. The Winter Warmer package costs £40.95 per person or you can opt for afternoon tea for £35.

DRINK IN AN IGLOO

Enjoy a totally unique experience over at The Waterfront, Market Harborough. The Muddy award winner has set up two cosy igloos that come fully heated, with snuggly blankets and your own Bluetooth speaker. They’re available until 16 Feb and can hold up to six people so you can invite your gal pals instead and make a night of it. All Valentine’s packages include a glass of fizz, and a two or three course meal including a Charcuterie plate, blood orange and honey glazed duck breast and red velvet crème brûlée. Sign me up!

A treat for jazz fans over at The Musician. Clark Tracey Young Guns Quintet will be bringing with him a talented Quintet of accomplished young award winning musicians. These are some of the most brilliant young jazz musicians in the UK and each one of them perform with skills and presentation far beyond their years. Top quality jazz that swings.

HAVE A LAUGH

You’ll laugh so hard your belly will hurt after a sess at The Comedy Store, at Melton Theatre, Melton Mowbray. Catch MC Ian Coppinger, Omid Singh, Dave Fulton and Jo Caulfield tonight from 8pm. Tickets £16.

Livi Lollipop – aka the Face painting Fairy is hosting a quirky workshop for couples where you can learn the fundamentals of face painting and body art to be enjoyed with Prosecco and artisan chocolates while you paint. Classes take place in Clarendon Park. £75 per couple for 2 hr session.

Another Muddy award winner, Ragdale Hall have a few special offers on for the lovers out there but we especially like the sound of the Cupid’s Couples Day where you can spend a whole day together with your loved one including a healthy buffet lunch, a glass of pink bubbly and a sharing plate of tapas and a treatment each. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, at Uppingham Theatre tells the story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door – see there’s the V Day spin! Unfortunately she’s been sold to a renowned warrior. Will a happy ending prevail for all? Wed 13 and Thur 14 Feb from 7.30pm.

The perfect time to come and admire the beautiful range of snowdrops planted throughout the gardens. Lots of common snowdrop as well as many rare and unusual varieties to see, all mixed in with so much other winter buds. Sip on cocktails while exploring the iconic 42m high Rocket Tower at the National Space Centre’s Cosmic Valentine night.
