Top places to live in Leicestershire & Rutland Exton

Small but perfectly formed and quite possibly the most beautiful village in Rutland.

This tiny village all centres around a beautiful English tree-planted village green and gorgeous, ivy-clad former coaching inn. It’s the definition of a rural idyll and only a couple of minutes to the banks of Rutland Water.

The Fox and Hounds is slap bang in the middle of this chocolate box picture-perfect village green – it has rooms (and a four AA star rating) plus an entry in The Good Food Guide. There’s also the fantastic Olive Branch – an award-winning pub in nearby Clipsham too. Don’t miss the delights of fresh bed and cakes from Hambleton Bakery.

Nearby Oakham has a few boutiques – Lucy Flint for jewellery and try Nadinoo for simple clothes. Cavells for designer fashion and homewares and Baba of Mine does adorable kids clothes and toys.

Exton Park is a large country estate offering extensive public access along footpaths and bridleways with wonderful scenic views. Barnsdale Gardens features Britain’s largest collection of individually designed gardens (38 in an eight-acre site to be precise) and also harbours a nursery and cafe. Let’s not forget Rutland Water. This large water playground is perfect for children both big and small. Here, you can enjoy water sports, nature reserves, outdoor water adventure cycling and walking facilities.

The average price for a property in Exton is around £205,000.

Oakham School is a brilliant co-ed independent school for children aged from 10 to 18 or there’s Uppingham School too.

The grand church of St Peter and St Paul lies within Exton park and contains an impressive collection of monuments. It’s built on the site of an earlier church dating back to 940 AD.

102 miles. To drive to London, it would take over two hours. Oakham station is a 15 minute drive, from there you can set a season ticket for just under £9,000.
