Feeling sweaty? The best natural deodorants
Wanna find a natural deodorant that keeps you stink-free? Here's my pick of the best natural deodorant sticks, bars and creams.
It’s been a slow process, but over the last few years I’ve taken a closer look at what I’m actually putting on my skin. I’ve started using as many natural and plant-powered products as I can, but when it comes to deodorant, that’s been a pongy Pandora’s box that I’ve not wanted to open… until recently.
Part of our bodily function as humans is to sweat, but non-natural deodorants i.e shop-bought ones contain aluminium which penetrate the skin and completely block the sweat glands. Now here’s the problem – aluminium has come under fire over the last few years and many have said it can cause breast cancer and even Alzheimer’s disease, but there’s very little evidence to actually prove this.
It was during a recent trip to New York that I decided to finally shop around for a natural and aluminium-free one. Finding a good one it turns out, wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be – although they are a darn lot more dearer than your Dove roll-on!
Here’s a list of the ones I recommend to help prepare you for the mini heatwave.
My top choice. It does exactly what it says – plus the scents are refreshing, zingy and subtle – think rose and vanilla, lime and bergamont. It definitely suited me and there was no wet or clammy feeling plus, it lasts; I spent an entire weekend walking around New York and never broke into a stinky sweat. Result! Not all the scents are avail in the UK. Vegan, plant-powered, well-priced and totally aluminium-free.
Malin + Goetz’s Eucalyptus deodorant, £12
Mixed with a refreshing natural eucalyptus extract and odour-neutralising citronellyl which is good for all skin types even those who are sensitive. Absorbs residue-free. Natural fragrance and colour and it also comes in a mini size – perfect to throw in your gym bag/office drawer.
£19 Malin + Goetz
I think the last time I used a roll on was when I was 16 and things have changed a lot since then! This alcohol-free, roll-on contains a complementary blend of essential oils to reduce and errr wasabi extract but if you prefer your wasabi on your sushi, you may want to steer clear of this one.
Agent Nateur holi (stick) No.3 Deodorant
Coconut oil, avocado butter, baking soda – no not the ingredients to a cake recipe by Nadiya Hussain – it’s actually a soothing treatment for the underarms which helps to nourish the skin, especially if you’re waxing or shaving and it also keeps sweat under wraps. Lightly scented with traces of honey, lavender and eucalyptus.
Drunk Elephant, Sweet Pitti Deodorant Cream
Infused with moisturising plant oils and shea butter so has a soft, creamy texture while eliminating stinky bacteria. The ethos of the brand is to treats the skin with smart, nourishing, skin-compatible ingredients. It eliminates pongy smells, absorbs moisture and it’s soft and gentle on the skin too with a mix of calming barrier supportive ingredients and a replenishing mix of plant oils.
